Carrick-On-Suir Triathlon

750m Swim - 20k Cycle - 5k Run

The Course
First run in 1994, the Carrick Tri is one of the most established events on the annual race calendar. Set along the banks of the River Suir, and nestled between the Comeragh Mountains and Slievenamon, the event is renown for the beauty of its surroundings and fairness as a triathlon course.

Swim
The swim takes place in the River Suir and starts 750m upriver of the transition area. The Try-athlon will commence 500m upriver of the transition area.

Cycle
The cycle route is fast with flat course aside from a small hill at the start. The road surface is very good apart from a poor stretch of a couple kilometres at the half way point.

Run
The run is a one-lap course, the first portion using the same road as the cycle leg. At the halfway point competitors turn onto a scenic river path to the finish line.

Transition
Transition is situated in a scenic and spacious park right between the river and the cycle/run routes.

Supersprint Tri Series

This very popular race series, usually 3-4 weeks long, begins shortly befor the main triathlon season and is based at the Sean Kelly Centre, Carrick-on-Suir. It is open to members only and consists of a short triathlon, repeated over a number of weeks. The course is a 400m pool swim, 12k bike and 3k run. The aim is to allow new members to race a practice triathlon before any of the main races, getting used to racing in three disciplines as well as the transitions between them. Current members find the series a perfect way to peak their fitness before the race season gets going. A small entry fee allows to race all or any of the supersprint triathlons. Prizes are usually awarded on an age group basis on taking into account your best two or three results, depending on the length of the series.

Summer Time-Trial Leauge, Waterford

This cycling time trial league takes place in Waterford in early summer and finishes in late summer/early autumn.. All participants meet up at an arranged location and spin easily out to the start line. Each week a different race formats is used, previous examples included 14k individual time trial, individual handicap time trial and a 20k team time trial. A small entry fee allows you to do as many or a few as you like. After each night you get points based on your individual performance. Because of the way the races are organised anyone (not just the fastest) can win on any given night or indeed overall so don't be shy about getting invloved!

Traditionally the results and prizes night is held in Waterford with finger food and refreshments. That night in itself has been one of the highlights of the year for the past few years!
